Summary of Insurance

Most businesses need to purchase some form of automobile liability coverage since claims for liability can arise from automobiles owned by the organization or as a result of employees using personal automobiles on behalf of the organization. In some states, businesses are required to maintain automobile liability requirements as part of financial responsibility laws.

Coverage Highlights

Automobile Insurance involves two basic types of coverage:

  1. Liability insurance coverage for losses, for company owned vehicles, caused by injuries to persons and legal liability imposed on the insured for such injury or for damage to property of others, and
  2. Physical damage insurance for losses, for company owned vehicles, caused by damage to or loss of the insured vehicle.
Rental Cars

Some auto insurers offer an endorsement which extends the auto liability coverage to include liability assumed under car rental agreements if vehicles are rented by your corporation and your employees during the course of business.

Auto insurers may also be willing to add coverage for physical damage to rental vehicles. With this coverage, your firm may not need to purchase the Collision Damage Waiver every time a car is rented.
